The 1sts maintained top position of the Robinson Services Section 2 with a hard fought 5 wicket win against Dundrum at Pollock Park in a re-arranged T20 league game on Monday evening.

Dundrum batted first and some excellent bowling at the top of the innings by Adam Johnson and Callum Grieve made runs for the visitors very hard to come by. Johnson also made a significant dent in the Dundrum top order in taking out their top three batsmen while conceding on 11 runs from his 4 overs and the visitors were sitting with 45 runs on the board after 10 overs. The pressure was maintained by the other bowlers with Peter Maxwell taking the other two wickets to fall for 21 in 4 overs while Peter Hutchinson and Jack Maxwell bowled tightly to conceded 24 runs each and opening bowler Callum Grieve, who beat the bat on numerous occasions, finished with figures of 0 for 17 in 4. Only 5 extras were conceded as the home side were set a target of 99 to win.

Lurgan’s innings got off to a bad start with Stephen Johnston mis-timing a shot to be caught at mid-wicket off just the second ball of the innings to bring an end to an extraordinary run of big scores.  Dundrum’s opening attack of Kearsley and Glover were proving difficult to get away and when Callum Grieve departed with the total on 25 in the 7th over, the town side still seemed a long way from victory. However skipper Jack Harrison was keeping the total ticking over pushing ones and twos, and useful contributions from Stephen Chambers (21) and Jack Maxwell (12) soon had the target in sight. Harrison departed to a blinder of a catch at short mid-off by Kearlsey and it was the experience of Derek Wilson (14no) and Peter Maxwell (3no) to hit the winnings runs with an over to spare.

Lurgan play their penultimate game of the season against Cooke Collegians at Pollock Park on Saturday.
