Ballymena game abandoned

Lurgan and Ballymena will have to replay their crunch Ulster Bank Section 1 gamed after a deluge at the Eaton Park ground forced the umpires into abandoning the game on Saturday.

Lurgan had set the home side a target of 150 to win on a wicket where the ball was not coming through on to the bat and had a tendency to keep low. Niranjan Godbole top scored with 32 and Peter Maxwell 21. There had already been three interruptions for rain in the Ballymena innings when a deluge flooded the square and part of the outfield with the home side in a strong position on 69 for 1 wkt after 17 overs. A valiant effort by Ballymena to dry out the ground proved to no avail as the umpires ruled the wicket unsafe for play to resume.
