Cricket Reports Mens and Ladies Update – 9th June 2018

Ist XI still without a win

Four matches into the 2018 season and Lurgan 1stXI are still without a league win. There were heavy defeats to Derriaghy and Woodvale in their first two games, while a total of 220 scored away to Holywood, inspired by a century from new signing Rohit Karanjkar, was passed by the home side with Lurgan spilling 5 dropped catches. A good bowling display against Laurelvale in their most recent game kept them in contention in a re-arranged 20 over game, after a poor batting display saw them dismissed for just 77.  Hower the villagers passed the total in the 18th over.

The 2nd XI have scored 2 wins out of two in their league games, beating Derriaghy by 8 wickets and

Cliftonville Academy by 50 runs with Mark McShane unbeaten on 53. However in the Minor Cup, the two’s crashed out in the 2nd round to Donacloney Mill by 7 wickets having defeated Derriaghy by the same result in the 1st round.

Ladies make it two out of two

Lurgan Ladies notched up their 2nd league win of the season with a convincing 107 run win over North Down at Pollock Park last weekend.

Another fine innings from captain Hannah Grieve ably supported by Samantha Todd saw the home side put on a century opening stand. Hannah was on the verge of a second successive century when she was trapped leg before for 96 while Samantha was bowled for 36, both wickets being taken by Maxwell.

184 was always going to be a tough score to chase and Lurgan’s bowlers never allowed the North Down batters to get anywhere near that total. All of the town’s bowlers chipped in with wickets and proved very economical. Hannah Grieve backed up her batting display by taking 3 wickets for 5 runs in 3 overs, Alex Craig 2 for 16 off 4, Emma McMurray 2 for 16 off 3, Suzie McCollum 2 for 16 off 5 and Lauren Breakey 2 for 21 off 5.

Lurgan Ladies were due to start defence of the NCU Cup against Donacloney at Pollock Park on Friday night but a thunderstorm wiped out any chance of play on the evening.
