Defeat for 2nds and Ladies teams

There was double disappointment for the cricketers at the weekend with defeats for both the 2nds and Ladies teams.

At Upritchard Park, the 2nds were edged out by just 7 runs against Bangor 3rds. An early breakthrough by Vaibhav in the first over of the Bangor innings brought Sam McMillan out to partner his father Patrick, and both scored freely putting on 134 for the 2nd wicket before Patrick was bowled by Peter Hutchinson for 79. Sam went on to make 52 before he was bowled by Manav Tygani with the last ball of the innings as the home side finished their 25 overs on 180 for 4 wkts.

In reply, Marvin Van Nekirk (31)and Manav Tygani (26) got Lurgan away to  a great start putting on 59 for the first wicket in just under 7 overs before both fell to Sam McMillan. The visitors were always up with the required run rate with Jack Hutchinson(14), John Woods (24) and Peter Hutchinson (24no) all scoring quickly. Nine runs were needed off the last 2 overs but Matthew Pitts struck twice in the penultimate over for the home side to take the points for Bangor.

The Ladies team were at home to CSNI and lost by 57 runs. CSNI posted a formidable target of 176 for the loss of 5 wkts with the foundation for the score being a century second wicket partnership between Sophie Thomas (73) and Ali Cowan (54). Evie Browes returned the best bowling figures for Lurgan taking 3 for 35 in her 4 overs. It was always going to be a tough total to chase and losing 4 middle order batters to run outs didn’t help the cause. Top scorer was Sam Todd with an excellent 40 while there was good support from Sophie Hinds(18) and Emma McMurray (13) as the Lurgan innings ended on 119 for 8 wkts.
