Dismal batting display by 1sts

A dismal batting display by Lurgan saw them crumble to a 106 run defeat at Downpatrick after a solid bowling and fielding display had dismissed the home side for 156.

Wickets fell regularly during the home side’s innings and only a 62 from last week’s double century maker Smith pulled Downpatrick up from a sub one hundred total. Paul Stafford was the pick of the Lurgan bowlers, taking 2 wickets for just 19 runs in his 10 overs. Ollie McCollum also took 2 wickets for 32 and there was a wicket each for Nathanial Ferris, Andrew Bingham, Peter Maxwell and Callum Grieve.

The Lurgan innings got off to a terrible start with the first 3 wickets falling without a run being scored. Only Peter Maxwell (18) and Ollie McCollum (12) got into double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 50. Downpatrick’s Smith followed up on his 62 with 3 wickets for just 19 runs while veteran Colin Magowan took 3 for just 7 runs.
