Ladies clinch derby win

Lurgan Ladies won an exciting Premier League encounter against local rivals Waringstown at Pollock Park on Thursday night, the winning run coming off the last ball of the game.

Waringstown batted first and openers Lyons and Johnston made a steady start.
However Emma McMurray and Sarah McCallan were bowling very economically and restricting the scoring to just singles. Naomi Matthews came to the crease following the dismissal of Johnston, caught by Hannah Grieve off the bowling of McCallan and gradually the villager’s run rate started to increase. Naomi retired undefeated on 50 as Waringstown posted a challenging 107 for 3 wickets in their 20 overs. The Lurgan girls bowled and fielded well with Sarah McCallan taking 1 wicket for 13 in her 4 overs while Hannah Grieve took 1 for 23 in also in 4 overs.

Jane Kilpatrick and Chloe Neville opened the Lurgan innings. However both were soon back in the pavilion, Neville bowled by Matthews for 3 and Kilpatrick run out for 10. This brought Hannah Grieve and Sarah McCallan to the middle and it was their third wicket partnership that brought the home side to the brink of victory. Sarah was eventually dismissed LBW for a valuable 32 and Hannah retired undefeated for an excellent 51, her innings including the only six hit of the game. After Lois Lyttle was run out, it was down to Alex Craig and Zoe Kilpatrick to see the Lurgan girls to an exciting last ball victory and claim a valuable 4 points.
