Ladies team progress to the next round of the Cup.

On a very hot Sunday 25th July at the Lawns, Lurgan Ladies met local team Waringstown in what was set to be another thrilling match between the two sides. After meeting twice already in two very tight games in the Premier League, it was all set to play for with both sides eager to make it into the next round of the Women’s Challenge Cup.

With the toss decided, Waringstown chose to bowl first. Starting strong, a well organised Waringstown team took 2 early wickets with captain Charlotte Lyons taking both a wicket and a catch in the field also. Waringstown continued to put the pressure on with some good performances all round, however, it was Lurgan’s Hannah Grieve who set the pace with a superb individual batting performance scoring a fine total of 109 in the end with S Hinds scoring 23 also.

After the half time break, again Waringstown came out strong. Some good batting performances were on display with Abbie Harrison scoring 42 and A Cunningham 21* however this was countered with some excellent bowling displays by Lurgan. Highlights included S Todd 2-16 and S McCollum 2-36. The match continued tight throughout the game with all of the Lurgan team continuing to work very hard in the field. This fine fielding brought the game to a close with Lurgan winning by 29 runs.

The ladies would like to take the time to thank the Gallagher’s representative who came to watch and as a team congratulate Hannah Grieve on the man of the match performance.

All support is welcome for the Ladies as they progress into the next round.
