1sts lose at Holywood
The 1sts lost their first match of the season going down to Holywood by 5 wickets at Seapark on Thursday night.
Batting first the visitors lost Jack Harrison early for no runs but Stephen Johnston and Stephen Chambers moved the score quickly to 47 when 3 wickets fell in 9 balls for no runs. This brought Derek Wilson and Jack Hutchinson to the middle and an excellent partnership of 60 runs helped steer the visitors to set a challenging target of 120 to win. Jack top scored with 28, Derek hit 25 and Stephen Johnston hit 21.
The Lurgan bowlers got off to a terrible start in the Holywood innings conceding 51 runs in the first 4 overs. Despite missing two front line bowlers, Lurgan gifted the home side too many runs in wides and short deliveries and despite a tight spell from Peter Maxwell (2 for 10 in 4 overs), it was always going to be difficult to get back into a match winning position for the visitors. Holywood were always ahead of the run rate and passed the Lurgan score in the 16th over.
