Girls win in thrilling finish

Lurgan Ladies clinched their first premier league points of the season with a thrilling 8 wicket win against Muckamore on Wednesday evening at Pollock Park. It was an evening when the bat dominated in both innings with only 3 wickets falling in the entire match, two of them run outs.
Muckamore batted first and their opening pair of Caufield and Keates batted through almost the entire innings. The only wicket to fall resulted from a brilliant piece of fielding by Emma McMurray to run out Keates for 29 with a side on direct hit in the 19th over. Caufield top scored with 43 no for the visitors. Although conceding a lot of wide deliveries, some excellent ground fielding by the Lurgan girls meant that it was singles that dominated the Muckamore scorecard and the visitors set Lurgan a target of 126 in their 20 overs for victory.

The home side had an early setback losing Emma McMurray for 1 in just the second over. However Sarah McCallan and Sam Todd began to establish themselves and the Lurgan run rate began to increase until a mid-wicket mix up lead to Sarah being run out for 19. This brought the in-form Sophie Hinds in to join Sam. Both girls played some excellent shots, paced the run chase exactly and ran brilliantly between the wickets, clinching the winning runs with just 2 balls to go. Sam Todd finished undefeated just one run short of her half century while Sophie Hinds was 25 no.
