Cricket Section – July Mens and Ladies Update

Men’s Cricket

The 1sts have won both of their last completed games against Laurelvale and Donacloney, both of them high scoring matches. At Laurelvale, innings of 82 by Stephen Johnston and 81 by Rohit Karanjkar paved the way to a total of 280 for 9 in their 50 overs. A Derek Heasley contribution of 3 for 47 helped restrict Laurelvale to 183 all out to, in the end, give the visitors a comfortable 97 run win.

At home to Donacloney the following week, Lurgan posted 301 for 8 wickets against Donacloney. Rohit Karanjkar led

the way with 88 and Stephen Chambers scored 73. Donacloney put up a valiant chase, but the dismissals of Dawson for 45 and Lyttle for an excellent century put the home side back in charge with the visitors falling 47 runs short.

The game at Woodvale yesterday was abandoned. The firsts still sit at the bottom of Section 1 on run difference sharing 2 wins with Donacloney with Laurelvale just above them on 3 wins and 7 games to play.

The 2nd XI were unable to field teams over the holiday period and were deducted 12 points that sent them to the bottom of the league table. In their last completed game at North Down, the home side hit 178 for 6 wkts with Lurgan running out of overs and finishing on 164 for 4 wkts just 14 runs short with Mark McShane scoring 66 and Neil Hinds hitting 53 not out. Yesterday’s game away to Templepatrick was abandoned.

Ladies Cricket

The Ladies team are once again in the final of the Gallagher Insurance Women’s Challenge Cup Final. A semi-final win over North Down at Pollock Park means thay meet CSNI in the final next Sunday 5th August at 2pm at Stormont. Against North Down, Lurgan scored 135 for 7 wickets in their 20 overs with Lauren Breakey top scoring on 40, Zoe Kilpatrick hitting 25 and Samantha Todd 24. Samantha and Lauren then chipped in with 3 and 2 wickets each respectively as the visitors were restricted to 118 for 8, leaving Lurgan winners by 17 runs.

In the Premier League, the Ladies currently sit in 2nd place to Muckamore with 3 wins out of 5 played, having lost narrowly to the leaders by 3 runs at Pollock Park on Sunday.

Congratulations also to Hannah Grieve, Susie McCollum, and Sam Todd who were selected to play for NCU senior squad v NWCU this Saturday at Bready CC. Great to see Lurgan CC represented so well.

Alex Craig was also selected for the previous match date, but is unavailable this weekend.
