Mixed fortunes for 2nds

With the 1st XI and Ladies teams having no games this weekend it was the 2nds who took centre stage, losing a high scoring league game at CSNI on Friday evening and winning against Donacloney at Pollock Park on Saturday.

Against CSNI 4ths, the 2nds were set a massive total of 211 for victory. The home side’s opener Thompson dominated the innings scoring 90 no while there was an undefeated half century for nr 3 batsman Cahoon. Lurgan made a spectacular start in reply and after 7 overs were 92 for 2 wkts and ahead of the run rate. However a steady loss of wickets in the 2nd half of the innings curtailed the run rate and the visitors fell short by 36 runs after their 20 overs. Neil Hinds top scored with an unbeaten 56 while John Woods hit 42 and Jack Hutchinson 19.

On Saturday, Donacloney 3rds were the visitors to Pollock Park and the town side’s batsmen were in fine form again, this time batting first and scoring 142 for 5 wkts in their 20 overs. An excellent 78 run partnership between Mark McShane, who top scored with 47, and Jack Hutchinson (37) set the foundations for the Lurgan total and a quick 22 by Iqbal Khan gave the visitors a challenging target.
Lurgan opening bowlers Adam Johnson and Peter Hutchinson kept the Donacloney batsmen quiet in the opening overs and the visitors were always behind the required run rate throughout their innings finishing on 113 for 5 wkts, with Quasm Mohammed taking 2 wkts and there was a wicket each for Iqbal, Manav and Vaibhav.
