Ladies win off last ball

A dramatic last ball win saw Lurgan Ladies maintain their unbeaten run in the NCU Women’s Premier League. Having retired on 50 not out, Hannah Grieve had to return to the crease as the champions 9th wicket fell to add another 10 to her score as along with Emma McMurray, both girls saw the home team to victory.
CSNI had batted first and tight Lurgan bowling restricted the visitors to 114 in their 25 overs. Hannah Grieve also
proved effective with the ball claiming 3 wkts for 10runs in her 4 overs while there was a wicket each for Lauren Breakey and Emma McMurray.

In reply, a 40 run opening partnership between Hanna Grieve and Chloe Neville  seemed to be steering Lurgan to victory. But the dismissal of Jane Kilpatrick, 4th wicket to fall with the score on 98 for a very useful 17, saw a dramatic collapse of the Lurgan middle and lower order as the home side were reduced to 102 for 9 wkts. However CSNI could not separate the last wicket partnership and the already crowned champions extended their lead at the top of the table to 16 points from 2nd placed CSNI.

Next Sunday, the Lurgan Girls go for the double as the take on North Down in the Women’s Challenge Cup Final at Pollock Park with a 12 noon start.
